This is the perfect time of year to pause, reflect, and carefully analyze the events that shaped the past twelve months. Among the important things to review is certainly the Bike Adventure Series. Although the project began in 2023, it truly came to life and established itself during 2024. Would you like to know how things went? Let’s look at it together.
How it started
The Bike Adventure Series was created through collaboration between the organizers of Tuscany Trail, NorthCape4000, Unpaved Roads, and The Grand Escape. The idea of joining forces to promote the “no race” concept had been brewing for a long time, but as often happens, there’s a big gap between ideas and reality. Finally, what had remained a shared dream materialized into this project.
We asked ourselves: how could we create a project that would have a real and meaningful impact on the thousands of people participating in BAS events? How could we inspire millions of enthusiasts to get on their bikes and start an adventure? Or even more simply, how could we encourage people to find the courage to explore less-traveled roads that hide undiscovered destinations?
With these questions in mind, we first discussed among ourselves and then actively involved many participants who have become trusted friends over the years. What you see today is the result of this process of reflection and discussion.
Focus on Participants: Your Personal Area
The most significant innovation we introduced concerns event participants – we created a dedicated personal area. Once you register an account with the Bike Adventure Series, you gain access to this space that greatly simplifies the event participation experience.
In this area, you have all the tools needed to:
- Register for any series event with a single login
- Upload your medical certificate, which is valid for all events
- Access all necessary participation information and communications with organizers in an organized way, avoiding scattered information across different emails
- Earn Adventure Points (more on this later)
- View your complete history of all events you’ve participated in, including post-event materials like official participant photos
- Complete registration quickly and intuitively through just a few essential steps
These technical improvements, while seemingly simple, represent a huge advantage for those wanting to participate in Bike Adventure Series events by optimizing participants’ valuable time.
Bike Adventure Series Board
The Board is a space to track your community adventures, turning each experience into a piece of your personal journey in the world of bikepacking and gravel within BAS.
We created this section of the website to celebrate every participant’s achievement, from the smallest to the most ambitious, related to event participation. The Board works like a digital travel diary that records and values every kilometer traveled with the community.
It works very simply – more Adventure Points means more adventure and fun in the last 24 months.
In a very short time, more than 20,000 cyclists from every corner of the world have joined the Board, demonstrating the extraordinary success of tens of thousands of people who believed in the Bike Adventure Series project. Our sincerest thanks go to all of you.
How Did the Events Go?
The events are the “real” part of this entire project. It’s when community members come together to ride, where old friends reunite and new connections naturally form. They represent opportunities to discover unexplored corners of Europe or return with enthusiasm to the year’s unmissable appointment. Let’s be honest: without these moments of sharing on the road, none of this would have the same meaning.
Starting with the Tuscany Trail, the world’s largest bikepacking and gravel event, which this year saw nearly 5,000 participants. We could describe it as an extraordinary traveling festival that winds through 440 kilometers of Tuscany’s most stunning landscapes. Among the new features introduced in the latest edition, the Base Camps were incredibly successful, offering participants an evening meeting point to share the day’s emotions and experiences.
The NorthCape4000 featured a “super short” route of only 4,000 kilometers. With a touch of irony, we designed a path connecting the starting point to North Cape that prioritized safety while keeping the distance as short as possible. The event proved as successful as—if not more than—previous editions, particularly due to the record number of participants who made this adventure an even more communal experience.
Unpaved Roads has evolved beyond being just a gravel event. Thanks to valuable participant feedback, the event has not only reached a higher quality level but has also evolved into a proper tour designed specifically for gravel enthusiasts. Beyond the standard weekend format, it now lets participants extend their journey across multiple days, giving them time to fully explore Italy’s most iconic regions on their gravel bikes.
The Grand Escape emerged as the year’s true surprise—not for the organizers, who knew the event’s exceptional quality, but for the thousand enthusiastic participants. Slovenia, Italy, Germany, and Austria hosted the three stages of this mini-series. The route featured an ideal blend of bike paths, secondary roads, and surfaces suitable even for traditional road bikes.
The Journal: A Resource for Everyone
If events like the Tuscany Trail or NorthCape4000 have been hugely successful over the years, it’s partly because we’ve never given up on the pleasure of sharing. As organizers, our commitment stems first from our personal passion for this world. And like any true enthusiast, we love sharing this enthusiasm with others. We’re deeply aware that sharing represents an invaluable asset, capable of inspiring more people to set out on journeys and explore new horizons.
Just as we do in real life when we gather with friends around a table to exchange travel advice, we wanted to replicate this atmosphere on the Bike Adventure Series platform through the creation of the Journal.
Here, every visitor will find a rich source of travel advice, equipment and bicycle suggestions, and much more.
An Ongoing Work in Progress
While we can’t predict exactly how things will unfold in the coming years, we’re convinced that what you see now is just the beginning of an even more exciting journey. We’re fully aware of the significant work ahead and the time needed to perfect every aspect, but this prospect doesn’t frighten us—it motivates us.
This community remains the guiding light for all our decisions and makes all this effort worthwhile.
Will there be new events in 2025? Absolutely—but for now, we prefer to maintain some mystery about our upcoming plans.
Rest assured that we’re all working diligently to create the best possible cycling experiences across Europe for you, crafting adventures that will become lasting memories.
